War in the South Carolina Backcountry: The British Period

    Wed, Oct 22, 2025 • 6p–7p • Meeting Rooms B & C

Join historian and battlefield preservationist Durant Ashmore for a brief history of South Carolina and the various forces that led to the American Revolution (Part 3 of 4). With over 400 battles, skirmishes, and significant events, the War in South Carolina had more horror - and more heroism - than any state in the nation. The Revolutionary War began in Boston and ended at Yorktown, but it was won in South Carolina. This presentation covers the British Period, including Charleston, Waxhaws, Huck's Defeat, Spartan district victories, Camden, Fishing Creek, and Musgrove Mill.
