Each year, the Library System plans a summer filled with reading challenges, special events, and of course, great prizes! Check back in spring of 2024 for more information about our next Summer Reading challenge. In the meantime, see below for information about our most recent Summer Reading challenges and prizes


Summer Reading 2023 Prizes

Each year, babies, children, and teens who complete their reading challenge earn great prizes. The last day to pick up your prizes is July 29.

 
 
Palmetto Basics Activities Challenge
  1. Register online.
  2. Print out your Summer Reading log or pick one up at any Library System location.
  3. Complete 10 Palmetto Basics activities with your child.
  4. Log your success in your online Summer Reading profile.
Prizes *
  • Ticket voucher to the Greenville Drive Reading All-Star (RAS) Celebration Game on Sunday, August 6 **
  • Greenville Drive/RAS hat (only at RAS game) compliments of Michelin
  • Board book (titles may vary).

* While supplies last. Substitutes may be offered. Collect your prizes by July 29.

** Please Note: Once you've earned a Greenville Drive ticket voucher, your voucher must be redeemed for an actual ticket to the Sunday, August 6, Greenville Drive Reading All-Stars Game, presented by Michelin.

  • Parade of Champions to begin at 2p and first pitch thrown at 3p.
  • Greenville Drive/RAS hat (only at RAS game) compliments of Michelin.

Reading Challenge
  1. Register online.
  2. Print out your Summer Reading log or pick one up at any Library System location.
  3. Read for 6 hours OR read 24 books. Audiobooks count, too!
  4. Log your success in your online Summer Reading profile.

  • Ticket voucher to the Greenville Drive Reading All-Star (RAS) Celebration Game on Sunday, August 6 **
  • Greenville Drive/RAS hat (only at RAS game) compliments of Michelin
  • Swamp Rabbit Café & Grocery coupon for a free pastry
  • Reading medal
  • Choice of slap bracelet or mini bean bag ball

FAQs

Why is Summer Reading important?

Children who participate in their public library’s summer reading program outperform those who don’t participate by:

  • having better reading scores by the end of third grade
  • scoring higher on assessment tests at the beginning of the school year
  • scoring higher on standardized tests
Who can participate?

Babies, children, and teens can all participate in the Summer Reading challenge! Summer Reading is free, open to the public, and does not require a Library card.

Can I count books that I read on my computer or e-reader?

Of course! Ebooks, including Beginning Readers, are available with an adult or unrestricted juvenile library card on OverDrive and Hoopla. Ebooks for young children are also available on BookFlix and Tumblebooks.

Can I count audiobooks?

You bet! Audiobooks are available with an adult or unrestricted juvenile library card on OverDrive and Hoopla. Talking story books for young children are also available on BookFlix and Tumblebooks.

Can I still pick up my prizes?

The last day to collect your prizes was July 29.

Can I still get a Summer Reading t-shirt?

Summer Reading t-shirts have sold out for 2023. They will not be restocked. Check back next Spring for info about Summer Reading 2024 t-shirts.
