    Armchair Traveler Series: Biltmore

    Tue, May 23 • 6p–7:30p

A little more than fifty miles north of Travelers Rest is the Biltmore Estate, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.  It is America’s largest and grandest private home.  Commissioned by George Vanderbilt with the idea of recreating a European working estate, it fulfills that promise to this day with its many on-site enterprises, such as wine-making.  Built between 1889 and 1895, it is the last American palace still owned by descendants of its original family.  It may be visited by the public, so whether or not you plan to visit, you will learn about an intriguing part of American history.  Join Jim Nicholson from the Osher LifeLong Learning Institute at Furman University to learn more about this piece of local history.

Registration required. Call 864-246-1695 or email berea@greenvillelibrary.org to register.
