Summer of ServiceSummer of Service
June 22-September 11, 2009

This is an extraordinary moment in time. As Americans, we have a unique opportunity to come together and solve our nation’s most vexing problems. In this spirit, President Obama is announcing a nationwide service initiative, the beginning of a sustained, collaborative and focused effort to meet community needs and make service a way of life for all Americans.

American DreamYour local public library just got a lot more inviting! With the help of a national grant, the Greenville County Library System has produced a short film, Welcome to Your Public Library, introducing the international community to a world of information. The initiative, funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and administered by the American Library Association, has helped 34 public libraries in 17 states offer increased literacy services to adult learners of the English language. Read the Library Journal article or view the film here.
