Dr. Mary Hiles has a Ph.D. in English literature/Renaissance drama and has presented Shakespeare programs in university settings, at OLLI, and in a variety of culture/arts venues. She is also the author of The Fountain, a musical based on the life of sculptor Helen Farnsworth Mears.
John Fagan has served as the Producing Artistic Director of the Upstate Shakespeare Festival for the past twenty seasons. During that time, he has presented 28 of Shakespeare’s plays for Upstate audiences. The Festival (celebrating its 25th Season this summer) continues to present the best of classical theatre to audiences without any admission fee. In addition to the Shakespeare plays, the Festival has presented works by Moliere, Fletcher and Beaumont, as well as the original adaption of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In addition to penning that script, John is also an award-winning author of six plays that have been staged across the country. He has also directed shows at The Warehouse Theatre, Centre Stage, Proud Mary Theatre, Greenville Little Theatre, Playhouse on the Square, Jenny Wiley Theatre, Weathervane Playhouse, Clemson University, and others. His most recent credits include: Peter and the Starcatcher (Spartanburg Little Theatre), ShaBoom-ShaBoom (Centre Stage), and The Boys in the Band (Proud Mary). John will be presenting Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest for the USF’s upcoming anniversary season. He lives in Greer.
