Book Discussion Series
Tuesday, November 17, 7:00p-8:30p
Hughes Main Library, Meeting Room A

Time travel…Virtual reality…Parallel universes. Join our new book discussion series and explore the realms of the Science Fiction world! Registration is required. Call 527-9219 for more information and registration.

Tuesday, November 17, 7:00p-8:30p

Connie Willis’ To Say Nothing of the Dog charms readers with its unique and playful blend of elements: the author leavens chaos theory and time travel with a mix of comedy (of errors and of manners), mystery, romance, and satire in a finely wrought Victorian-Era setting.

Tuesday, December 15, 7:00p-8:30p

With characteristic mordant wit, novelist Terry Pratchett brings together survivors of a devastating tsunami in a universe parallel to our own nineteenth-century in Nation. Daphne, young heir apparent to the British Crown and sole survivor of a shipwreck on a remote island in the South Pelagic Ocean discovers Mau, a native island boy whose people have all perished in the great wave. The two band together with other survivors to patch together a civilization out of the ruins.

After you register for the program, you will receive a packet of materials with the following enclosed items:

  • A copy of the first book in the series
  • An essay introducing the works we’ll be reading and discussing
  • A list of suggested further readings to explore

Packets and copies of the books will be loaned to the first 20 people who register for the program. More participants are welcome but will have to provide copies of the books for themselves.

A brief introduction and a list of discussion questions for each work will be provided. At the end of each of the discussions, you will turn in the book discussed that evening and have an opportunity to borrow the next book in the series.
