Two Bobbies: A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship, and Survival by Kirby Larson and Mary Nethery
Two Bobbies: A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship, and Survival by Kirby Larson and Mary NetheryWalker Publishing Company, 2008
Unpaged
Ages 5-8 years

Animals can teach us many things, including the importance of true friendship. In this book, deftly illustrated by Jean Cassels, you will meet Bobbie, the dog, and Bob Cat. Despite a mutual lack of tails, they owned the sheer determination to survive following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Abandoned by their owner during the forced evacuation as the storm raged, the two friends roamed the flooded streets of New Orleans from August to January. Bob Cat stayed close to Bobbie, following the broken chain trailing from the dog’s neck to the ground. Best Friends Animal Society volunteers eventually took in the cat and dog and discovered the amazing fact that Bob Cat was blind and Bobbie had been her guide dog as well as her companion. There is a very happy ending that will bring tears to your eyes. Included in the afterward is a photograph of Bob Cat and her adoring canine friend.
