Special Services

The Greenville County Library System welcomes those with disabilities to participate in the services, programs and activities of the library. The library will make reasonable modifications to policies and procedures in an effort to equally serve persons with disabilities. Reasonable advanced notification is requested for scheduled programs. Service animals are welcome in all library facilities.

Read Speaker Help

You may have noticed something new when reading an article from Kids Infobits, Opposing Viewpoints Reference Center or Science Resource Center. A red media player and button titled “ReadSpeaker Help” allows text–to-speech capability with these popular databases.


Talking Books Talking Book Services
There’s more than one way to read a book. The South Carolina State Library's Talking Book Services provides informational and recreational reading materials in accessible formats. The program serves South Carolinians unable to use conventional print due to a physical disability.

Select from hundreds of audiobooks and listen to them on your computer, MP3 player, PocketPC or other portable listening device.

Did you know that reference services are available by email, chat, in person, and by phone? As an information leader of the Upstate, the Greenville County Library System provides access to quality research services and tools. Knowledgeable library staff assists the public with research by answering questions and providing accurate information, selecting resources in specific subject areas, and conducting training sessions and programs for library users. Staff assistance is available during all hours that the Hughes Main Library is open - Sunday 2p-6p, Monday - Friday 9a-9p, and Saturday 9a-6p.
