Librarians' Internet Index: New This Week
New and newly-discovered Web sites for librarians and everyone else, updated every Thursday morning. See more resources on our site, http://lii.org/.

  • The Blurb
This week includes striking magazine covers, getting ready for the trip to Beijing, resurrecting off-shore drilling and the Peripheral Canal, keeping bees busy, and a second look at August. Bon appetit from librarians Maria, Jennifer, Wendy, and Charlotte.

  • Tip of the Week
We like hearing from you. To correspond with us, please use our web form. Messages sent by replying to the newsletter robot may never reach us. We are not able to change subscription information such as your email address, but you can change it by accessing your account directly.

  • Victory Gardens
Site for a "project funded by the City of San Francisco to support the transition of backyard, front yard, window boxes, rooftops, and unused land into organic food production areas. The SF Victory Garden program builds on the successful Victory Garden programs of WWI and WWII but redefines 'Victory' in the pressing context of urban sustainability." Features information about the garden planted in front of San Francisco City Hall in 2008 and a FAQ.

  • Restore the Delta
Website for "a grassroots campaign committed to making the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta fishable, swimmable, drinkable, and farmable to benefit all of California." Site features information on Delta agriculture, opposition to a proposed peripheral canal, and reasons for restoring the delta; newsletter; advocacy initiatives; and a meeting calendar.

  • Comparing Futures for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
This July 2008 report concludes that "[b]uilding a peripheral canal to carry water around the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is the most promising strategy to balance two critical policy goals: reviving a threatened ecosystem and ensuring a high-quality water supply for California's residents." Includes summary and full text of report, and interactive features on delta island flooding with and without repairs. From the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC).
