Exhibition:

As part of their 150th anniversary celebration, the American Institute of Architects has designed a traveling exhibition, titled “America’s Favorite Architecture,” based on the results of an AIA member and public opinion poll.

This exhibition consists of beautiful, oversized photographs of the 150 selected projects encased in a sustainable structure. To highlight the AIA’s commitment to environmentally sustainable principles, the exhibit designers (C&G Partners, LLC of New York) incorporated sustainability and reuse into this traveling exhibit. The structural members are mailing tubes of 100 percent post consumer, recycled paper supplied by Yazoo Mills in New Oxford, Penn. Joints are made from FSC-certified, managed forest Baltic birch of ¾-inch plywood with a raw finish. The fixtures and the mailing tubes can be immediately repurposed locally when the exhibit finishes traveling. Finally, the entire exhibit is lightweight and packs efficiently, greatly reducing the fuel needed for shipping.

The exhibit also includes an interactive voting element that allows guests to vote for their own top five projects and compare their results with the nationwide poll.

The exhibit opens on Monday, March 31and runs though Thursday, May 15, 2008.
