Magyk by Angie Sage

Magyk by Angie SageOur spy, my lord, has suspected a child for a while. She considers her to be a stranger in her family. Yesterday, our spy found out that the child is of age.

What age exactly?

Ten years old today, my lord.

What could be worse than finding out on your tenth birthday that your parents aren’t really your parents and you aren’t really a simple girl from a big family of brothers and two ordinary wizards? Nothing could be worse than that, unless, perhaps, like young Jenna in this story, you find out on the same day that you are instead a princess whose mother was killed by an assassin of the ex-extraordinary wizard-turned-Necromancer who was at that moment still searching for you so that he could kill you too and take his place as Master of the Castle and ruler of the wizarding world.

Luckily for Jenna, she has a protective older brother named Nicko, a somewhat bumbling but very brave and devoted father named Silas, an overbearing but caring ExtraOrdinary Wizard named Marcia, and an unofficial uncle Alther who is a ghost and an ExtraOrdinary Wizard, all traveling with her through towers, chutes, seaports, the ocean, lakes and marshes to the relative safety of Aunt Zelda’s cabin in the Marram Marshes in the middle of nowhere. Oh, and there’s also Boy 412, a member of the young army who gets caught up in all of the confusion and carried along with the motley crew and learns some very interesting things about himself and his past along the way.

If you liked Harry Potter, then you might want to give this book, and the rest of the books in the series, a try!
