Lionboy by Zizou Corder

Lionboy by Zizou Corder‘The cats at home,’ he said, ‘my friends, told me that I should ask a cat, if in doubt…My parents, you see, have been stolen away, though I don’t know exactly why, or where they are being taken, but the river cats said they were on a ship going out to sea, to France, and I wonder—have you heard anything?’

What happens when you accidentally mix a leopard cub’s blood with a baby human’s blood? You get a kid who can speak to cats, of course! At least that was the consequence of Charlie Ashanti’s run-in with a leopard cub when he was still just a baby. It was an accident. Charlie’s father Aneba was attending to a small leopard cub after it had been bitten by a poisonous snake. Just as he was injecting the poor creature with the anecdote, toddler Charlie ran up surprising the cub and Aneba, who spilt the blood between them, resulting in a DNA transformation that would allow Charlie to communicate, verbally, with all cats. Wow! And it was a good thing, too, because Charlie will have to rely on that special ability ten years later after his parents are kidnapped, and he is forced to escape from a teenaged captor, join a floating circus, escape the floating circus (along with several big lions), stow away on the Orient Express and hide out in the beautiful room of the King of Bulgaria!

There are, of course, lots and lots of action, suspense, bloodshed, talking cats, asthmatic children and trapeze artists included, which makes for quite an interesting adventure. To see if Charlie is able to find and rescue his parents, read Lionboy, by Zizou Corder.

By the way, there are two more books in this bestselling series. To get the whole story, you really should read all three: Lionboy, Lionboy: The Chase, and Lionboy: The Truth. You can find them at the library. Happy reading!
