Background
Founded in 1921, the Greenville County Library System operates 11 facilities,
a bookmobile, and a website that provide information, materials, and engaging
programs delivered with world-class technology and a customer-centric approach.
The library system offers free access to resources and experiences and
continually strives to be the community's destination of choice for exploring
the world.

FY2011 Statistics
- Total annual circulation of library materials in the system is 3.7
million.
- There are 758,672 books and 175,113 audiovisual materials system-wide.
- More than 63,865 new books and over 12,000 audiovisual items were
added the system’s materials collection.
- 244,334 individuals are registered borrowers.
- Annually, there are almost 2 million walk-in visits to the Greenville County Library System.
- The system offers 269 public access internet workstations.
- Nearly 1.6 million patrons visited the Greenville
County Library System’s website.
Facilities
- Hughes Main Library is just over 119,000 square feet (the second largest
public library in South Carolina) and opened to the public in 2002.
- In addition to the main library, the Greenville County Library System
includes 10 branches. A bookmobile serves rural areas of the county.

- Hughes Main Library has many high-tech features including:
- Large meeting space with multimedia capability
