We will also need shelvers and Book shop attendants to help with the increased library traffic. Whether you can volunteer on a regular basis throughout the summer or on a one-time basis, whether you want to serve in your local branch only or wherever you are needed, we need your help! Contact our This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to schedule your time. Most programs are scheduled for weekday mornings and afternoons, but we need volunteers to serve on evenings and weekends as well. Most of these programs are great volunteer opportunities for teens (age 16 and older) who need service hours or for younger teens accompanied by an adult

.

VolunteerEarly Literacy Volunteer Storytimers - Are you skilled at reading to children? Would you like to develop this special talent? The library is seeking volunteers for our new ELVS program (Early Literacy Volunteer Storytimers). Volunteers must be available on Saturday mornings, must successfully complete a two-hour training session at the Hughes Main Library and demonstrate an ability to lead an engaging story session. Prior experience working with children is helpful, but not necessary. An enthusiastic personality and dependability are a must!

Book Shop Attendants - Our Friends Book Shop at the Hughes Main Library needs volunteers to serve as Shop Attendants. The shop is open from 10am to 4pm, Monday through Saturday. Volunteers work a three-hour shift. You must be a member of the Friends of the Library or be willing to join. You must also provide references, be able to work without supervision and have good customer service skills. Training is provided on-site. Prior retail experience is not necessary. Shop volunteers determine their own work schedules, but dependability is critical. Great opportunity for a team of two volunteers who want to work together.

Self-Check Trainers - We need outgoing volunteers who are available to volunteer on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to train library visitors with the Self-Check machines. This position allows for a very flexible schedule. Training is minimal and will be provided on-site.

Shelving Assistants - We have an ongoing need for volunteers at all locations to help with shelving books and "reading" shelves. Flexible schedule. Training is provided and an assessment test is required. Requires good eyesight and the ability to stand and push carts of books. Great opportunity for teenage volunteers (age 16 or older). If you like to organize things this is the job for you!

Researchers - We need volunteers with an eye for detail to assist with various projects in our South Carolina Room. The South Carolina Room is our repository for local history and genealogy information, so if you are a history buff, this is where you want to be! Projects vary, but could involve researching old newspapers, handling archival documents, or scanning items for our digital file. Flexible schedules.

Special Events Assistants - We need volunteers to help with special programs on an as-needed basis. Typical tasks would include managing a registration table, handing out materials, assisting with program set-up or break-down. Most of our events take place on weekends or evenings. This is a great opportunity for a volunteer team or a family.

VolunteerCrafty Kids Assistant - We need one or two volunteers to assist with our Crafty Kids program, which meets every Thursday afternoon at the Hughes Main Library. This volunteer would help children create a simple craft. The ideal volunteer is dependable and can make a weekly commitment. Good opportunity for a teenage volunteer (age 16 or older) or for a team of two volunteers who want to work together. Craft experience is not necessary, but an ability to work with children is desired.
