Create an account tutorial Print

Click on the “create an account” link from our web page. You will be prompted to type in your Greenville County Library Card number and PIN (usually the last four digits of your telephone number). Next, you will be taken to a page that looks like this:

Create an account

Down the left-hand side of the page, you will notice the required fields marked with a red/orange asterisk.

1) Enter in all relevant information.
2) Click the create account button located near the bottom of the page.

If there are any problems, such as the username you chose already being in use by someone else, you will tell be alerted to correct these errors. Once this step is completed, your account has been created and you are ready to proceed downloading an audio book.

How to download an Audiobook:

Now use the username and password you created in the previous step to log in to the Audiobook website. You can enter that information in the upper right hand corner of the site:

Create an account

Click on the red “Log in” button after entering your information. (Pressing enter will log you in.)

After you have logged in successfully you will see a page that looks like this:

Create an account

A search box at the top of this page in the orange area, allows you to search for a specific Audiobook. Links down the right-hand side of this page lets you browse titles by category. Newer or featured books are displayed in the center portion of the screen. For demonstration purposes, we will download one of these. Your search results would appear where these books currently are, so the process would be the same. Under the name and description of each title, you will see a red link “View Details.” Click on this link for the Audiobook you wish to download.

This will take you to a page describing the book’s particulars, such as the information shown here:

This step ensures that this is the book you wish to download. Next to the picture of the book is a blue link that says “Download this Audiobook.”

If this is indeed the Audiobook you wish to download, then click this link to go to the next step. Here is what you should see next:

This is the actual checkout process. It gives you a couple of options, either CD or Radio quality, and your choice will determine how big the file is you wish to download as well as how good the book sounds when you listen to it. Remember: Larger file sizes will take longer to download. Note: If you are going to transfer the Audiobook to a portable device, you must download CD quality.

There is a final option listed here as a link called “Checkout (No Download. Only license to play file.). This grants you the ability to renew an Audiobook should it expire before you finish without having to take the time to download it again. You are only allowed to renew an individual title once for an additional 21 days.

After choosing the method of download, please click on the blue underlined link to start the download to your local computer. You may or may not see this screen:

Create an account

Notice the beige warning bar at the very top of the page, right above the words Netlibrary in the title bar. This warning bar tells me that my computer is protecting me from downloading potentially harmful files to my computer.

You will need to use your left mouse button to click in this bar to actually continue downloading the file. You will need to choose the option to “download file” as shown below:

If you did not receive the above mentioned warning, that is ok. Either way this next screen should appear:

If you choose open, then it will open Windows Media Player on your local computer and start playing shortly. It may seem like your computer is doing nothing, but more than likely it is downloading the Audiobook in the background to a temporary location. Please give it adequate time before giving up.

If you choose Save (recommended), the computer will prompt you to choose a location to place the file. Like so:

Create an account

It is probably best to click on the My Documents icon along the left hand side (recommended.) The Desktop icon is another option that makes files easier to find for later retrieval. We recommend saving the Audiobooks because they are normally too long to listen to them in one sitting. Saving Audiobooks allows you to listen to them in more than one session, more easily picking up where you left off from previous sessions. Once the download completes you will have successfully downloaded the audio book. If you go to your My Documents folder (or wherever you chose to download it) then you can double click on the file to launch it in Windows Media Player.
