The Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Hughes Main Library was quite a success.
Our special guest, Señor Vásquez, danced to Mexican folkloric
music, and we had a great time following along in his steps. Then, we played
Memory, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, and the Mexican Hat Dance. Many of the
participants made a Mexican flag and enjoyed a few treats. They especially
liked the galletas Marias with cajeta (cookies with caramel).
There was a grand drawing for a bilingual book at the end of the fiesta,
and each child received a Spanish/English dictionary and a “Read” bracelet.
Everyone left with little gifts and smiles on their faces.
