Join Catch The Reading Bug

Children ages 12 and younger are invited to participate in the Greenville County Library System summer reading program, Catch the Reading Bug! Get a Reading Log and bookmark when you join. The last day to enter titles in the Log, collect prizes, and receive School Notification and Frequent Visitor stamps is Saturday, August 2.

Rewards
You’re a Reader! You have read or listened to 10 books or long chapters.* Bring your Catch the Reading Bug! Log to the library location where you registered and receive a Chick-fil-A Icedream coupon, and a bug sticker while supplies last.**

You’re a Great Reader! You have read or listened to 25 books or long chapters.* Bring your Catch the Reading Bug! Log to the GCLS location where you registered and receive Reader prizes (if you haven’t previously received them), a Chick-fil-A kids meal coupon, a Certificate of Completion and a clip-on buggy bookmark while supplies last.**

You’re a Super Reader!
You have read or listened to 45 books or long chapters.* Bring your Catch the Reading Bug! Log to the GCLS location where you registered and receive all of the above prizes (if you haven’t previously received them), a cool bug catcher, and an issue of The Daily Buzz featuring fun bug facts, word games and more while supplies last.**

*A long chapter is at least 25 pages.
**The library may also substitute other incentives.

Ending Date! Don’t Be Late!
Catch the Reading Bug! reading ends Saturday, August 2. That is the last day to enter titles in the Log, collect prizes, and receive School Notification and Frequent Visitor stamps.

School Credit
When you have completed 10, 25, and/or 45 books, take your Reading Log and this sheet to the library where you registered and have it stamped to show that you are a Reader, Great Reader, or Super Reader. If your school honors summer readers, show them this stamped sheet and your reading log.


Teen Summer Reading 2008

May 30 - August 2 - Open to rising 6th-12th graders.
Register and pick up your reading log and a bookmark at any Greenville County Library System location.

Read or Listen - 5 Hours

  • Record dates and hours read on your reading log.
  • Go to the library where you registered.
  • Show a staff member your reading log.
  • Get a Chick-fil-A milkshake coupon.
  • Do this by June 27 and get entered to win a free pass to Discovery Island.

(1 winner will be selected for each branch location.)

Read or Listen - 10 more hours (15 Hours total)

  • Record dates and hours read on your reading log.
  • Go to the library where you registered.
  • Show a staff member your reading log.
  • Get a Jack in the Box coupon.
  • Be entered to win a $10.00 book store gift certificate.

(1 winner will be selected for each branch location. Drawing will be held by Friday, August 15th.)

Read or Listen - 5 more hours (20 Hours total)

  • Record dates and hours read on your reading log.
  • Go to the library where you registered.
  • Show a staff member your reading log.

Catch the Reading Bug
May 30 - August 2

This year's summer reading theme for children ages 0-12 is Catch the Reading Bug. Read lots of great books; get great prizes. Register at any Greenville County Library System location. Registration is free.
You must be a registered Summer Reader to attend these programs: Sadie's Spectacular Saturday, Alberti Flea Circus, Becky's Puppets, and Snakes Alive. Your Catch the Reading Bug reading log is your ticket in.

Daycares, Summer Recreation Classes and Other Groups - Please Note!
Due to high attendance during summer months, in many locations scheduled story times and special programs cannot accommodate groups. If you are seeking permission for your group of 10 or more, please call the location you wish to attend to check availability for a reservation. Groups that do not have prior library permission to attend a program will be denied admission.

Morning Summer Specials replace all regularly scheduled morning story times. Seating is limited due to fire code regulations.

Step Up To The PlateStep Up to the Plate @ your library
Trivia Contest
Baseball season is here, and library users can get in on the action during the Step Up to the Plate @ your library baseball trivia contest. This year's program includes a special "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" theme in honor of the 100th anniversary of the song. Visit our website at www.greenvillelibrary.org to link to the Step Up to the Plate trivia contest for ages 10 and under, 11-13, 14-17, and 18 and up. Play to win one of several prizes, including a grand-prize trip for two to Cooperstown, N.Y., to attend the Hall of Fame's World Series Gala in October 2008.
