The Children's Area of the Hughes Main Library features:

  • Books, magazines, videos and DVDs, CD-ROMs, audio books and music on both tape and CD, foreign language materials and board books
  • 20 computers with children's preloaded games, word processing, DISCUS, and Internet access
  • A nursing room that includes a diaper changing station
  • Two programming rooms for story times and class visits
  • A wall with the words "Explore Your World" written in 13 different languages that are spoken in the Upstate

We have made the nationally acclaimed Every Child Ready to Read program interactive! You and your child will visit six learning stations (music, crafts, etc.) where you will work together to perform activities that will provide your child with pre-reading skills. Ages 4 and under with an adult caregiver. English/Spanish materials available. No groups. Three children per adult caregiver maximum.

Join us as we celebrate National Fire Prevention Month through stories, learning about fire safety, meeting a real firefighter and seeing a fire truck. Children may come dressed as firefighters. For preschool children with an adult caregiver. Note: Firefighter/truck will not be available if a fire emergency occurs.
