Bookends
Hughes Main Library, Story Time Room
Girls in grades 4-6 and their mothers (or adult female caregivers) are invited
to attend this bimonthly book discussion group in which participants are prepared
to discuss their reading of the book selection. Activities such as games or crafts
related to the reading will follow. Bookends is designed to encourage new female
readers as well as provide family and social enrichment.

Next is our fabulous new series Ever
After Stories. This series is designed to both satisfy
the growing imaginations of our older kids and allow for participation
by working parents. Ever After Stories explores folk and fairy tales
from around the world through stories, songs, and games. This program
meets at 7:00p at the Hughes Main Library starting September 4, 2008
with the Princess and the Pea and other stories . This program is suited
for ages 7 and up. See our Children Page for more information.

Explore
Your World
This ongoing program introduces young people to world geography and
culture. Travel to a different country and enjoy related stories, songs,
games and crafts. Program meets every other month. Designed for ages

Grandbaby Books
Bring you grandchildren (or children) for stories, singing and dancing. This
is a new program that will meet every other Saturday beginning April 5, 10:00am, at the Hughes Main Library.

Step
Up to the Plate begins April 4, 2008.
Kids and adults off all ages are invited to download his/her playbook and entry form.Each playbook poses a series of baseball-related questions to test player’s
information literacy skills. Categories of questions include: ballparks, baseball
in popular culture, fan experience and baseball pioneers. Participants compete
for a chance to win a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
to attend their World Series Gala in October. All entries must be submitted
by September 5, 2008. More information on the National Baseball Hall
of Fame and Museum is available at www.baseballhalloffame.org.

The Children’s Area of the Hughes Main Library features:
- Books, magazines, videos and DVDs, CD-ROMs, audio books and music
on both tape and CD, foreign language materials and board books
- 20 computers with children's preloaded games, word processing,
DISCUS, and Internet access
- A nursing room that includes a diaper changing station
- Two programming rooms for story times and class visits
- A wall with the words "Explore Your World" written in
13 different languages that are spoken in the Upstate
